Sjoerd Tijssen was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 1946. Prior to arriving in Sydney, Australia with his family as migrants in the mid-1950s Sjoerd lived in Santpoort, North Holland.

The Tijssen family's connection with Astrology and the unknown subjects such as the occult goes back a long way and Sjoerd (pronounced as Stewart without the 't' but as a 'ye' - as in Bjorn) is a fifth generation member of the Theosophical Society. Leendert Tijssen, Sjoerd's father, also an Astrologer, had a major influence in Sjoerd's life and current understanding of this vast subject. Sjoerd is currently translating and updating his fathers life's work on Astrology 'The Two Faces of the Eternal' a deeply significant work of interest in the fundamental origins of the symbolic significance of Astrology and how we can use this knowledge to understand the human journey through this symbology. Educated to high school level in Western Sydney, Sjoerd worked in many fields before 1996, when he moved to Adelaide, where he now has his Astrology practice- the Arcturus Connection - [see Arcturus talk page]. In 1978, at the age of 32, Sjoerd entered his passion to work in radio with the SBS (The Special Broadcasting Service), then in its infancy, in Sydney. Sjoerd had long been associated with public broadcasting (later known as Community Radio) since it's early days and development in Australia. During the 1990s, Sjoerd had weekly Astrology segments called 'Astro-Talk' on Radio 2SER (Sydney) and also hosted a weekly half hour program, 'Soul Safari,' a program on spiritual questions.

Sjoerd studied Astrology at the College of Humanistic Astrology in the 1980s with Alia Ryder and Kate Bekesi, later working with Kate in her own classes on Experiential Astrology and the Tarot for several years before moving to Adelaide, where Sjoerd has expanded his connection with other like workers and healers (see the Links page to connect to some of their websites).

Sjoerd holds a Practitioner's Certificate from the Federation of Australian Astrologers, and has been a practitioner of Experiential Astrology for over ten years, and is currently conducting workshops called "Experience Your Zodiac Sign" at the Body, Mind & Psychic Fair in Adelaide.

A personal consultation with Sjoerd is an interactive and wholistic experience with your cosmic dynamics expressed through your horoscope (or "chart" as we refer to it). Experientially, you will see your chart symbolically laid out around you as if on a Greek stage. You see your own "cosmic connection". Your chart comes into its own kind of life, in which you can realise your greater potential and understanding of yourself and how you can see your life revolving and interacting around you. That is; how do you interact with those in your life and why? Possibly the greatest human question in life - why is this so?

If unable to see Sjoerd physically, then this is conducted via a tape recording, and Sjoerd believes that both he and you have a distinct personal relationship with your chart and its dynamics. Based on many such readings now, Sjoerd finds this an extraordinary experience and very valuable.

Using the latest cutting-edge technology, the ancient astrological wheel is put to practice, here and now, as an efficient and accurate interpretation of what went before and future possible outcomes. The extensive computer interpretation sent to you is largely written by Sjoerd and contains many additional; cosmically inspired thoughts from Sjoerd's personal work, experience and insights- this includes data and information channelled through the Arcturus Connection and seen represented in your Birth chart outline by Sjoerd.
